What is M.E.Ch.A: M.E.Ch.A. stands for Movimiento Estudiantíl Chicana/o de Aztlán. The purpose of M.E.Ch.A. de Santa Clara is to respond to the social, political, cultural, and educational needs of the Chicano/Latino community and to promote and publicize these needs to the Santa Clara Community at large. Mecha is now dedicated to fostering our four pillars: cultural awareness, political activism, social interaction, and educational outreach.
The Santa Clara Chapter of M.E.Ch.A:
El Frente seeks to act on the behalf of of the rights of the Chicano/Latino community around us, including the rights of immigrants, the working class, campesinos, students, and youth. The Santa Clara Chapter of MEChA- El Frente, also supports cultural events designed to celebrate the beauty of the Latino community, as well as to educate members or our Santa Clara community on the Chicano/Latino experience. We believe that the learning and sharing of different cultures is a way to foster a sense of community amongst diverse individuals and nurture an environment of tolerance.
